Everyday I deal with students that range from the highly unmotivated to the overachieving. ALL students in a mainstream classroom have the ability to be successful in math. How successful they are deals with two factors: their skills and their effort. Too many times I hear the comment, “I’m just really bad at math” or worse yet, “my son/daughter struggles in math.” These statements just mask the real problem and is why I’m trying to generate honest dialogue. I’ve also created Advanced Algebra Prep, a prep course that can give students the confidence and skills they need to be successful beyond Algebra 1. My hope is to offer some guidance and discussion to those parents who need it.
